I believe there exists a (MUF) program that "pings" you with a line of /somthing/ every once in a while so you don't get droped.
The use of {delay} in MPI trivializes the task of outputing something every so often.
A simple line like ** Time is ** once every five minutes would work wonders and is easy in MPI, triggerable by a _connect for instance.
